Midnite Solar, Surge Protector Device, 3-wire, 600VDC/480VAC, for Grid-Tied systems, MNSPD-600

According to UL1449 rev3, the MidNite Solar 600V Surge Protector System (MNSPD) is a Type 2 device. It protects service panels, load centers, grid-tied PV combiners, inverter input circuits, and other electronic devices where the SPD is directly connected to the electronic device requiring protection in both AC and DC systems. ETL has listed it for the USA and Canada.

The MidNite Solar Surge-Protector Device (MNSPD) is a Type 2 device that provides protection to service panels, load centers, or where the SPD is directly attached to the electronic device that needs protection. It is designed for both AC and DC systems. The SPD can only have maximum security if it is properly mounted.

To optimize the necessary degree of security, the MidNite Solar SPD is available in four different models. The clamping voltage is reduced to a reasonable level that your device can tolerate without causing harm to the electronics. The MidNite Solar SPD voltage rating should be chosen based on the system's nominal voltage. To clamp 128,000 A, the response time is 8/20 s. Each unit has two LEDs that light up when the unit is turned on and there is power.

Surge safety for wires coming from a 12, 24, or 48 VDC PV array, DC wind generator, or DC hydroelectric turbine is offered by the MNSPD-115. The MNSPD-300-DC is suitable for 150 VDC systems as well as larger systems with sources up to 300 VDC. On 120/240 VAC split-phase circuits or two legs each on 208 VAC circuits, the MNSPD-300-AC can be used. The MNSPD-600 is intended for high-voltage grid-tie PV arrays or 480 VAC circuits with two legs each. A combiner box, DC or AC load core, or grid-tie inverter may all be outfitted with lightning protection. These devices can be mounted on your AC load center to protect your equipment from utility line spikes, as well as on AC wiring that runs outside the building to generators, pumps, or outbuildings. These surge arrestors fit into a 12" knockout and come with a five-year warranty on materials and workmanship.
