The SunSaver SS-MPPT-15L solar controller with TrakStar Technology from Morningstar is an advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) battery charger for off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems with outputs up to 400Wp. The controller has a smart monitoring algorithm that maximizes solar panel energy harvest while also providing load control to avoid battery over-discharge.


The SunSaver MPPT is ideal for both commercial and residential solar energy applications, including automated lighting power. Its charging phase has been optimized for increased battery life and device efficiency. This product is epoxy encapsulated for environmental safety and has an optional remote meter and battery temperature sensor. It can be changed by the user through four setting switches or by connecting to a personal computer.

  • Maximizes Energy Harvest, Lower System Cost & Longer Battery Life - Morningstar's TrackStar MPPT technology boasts a 97.5 percent peak efficiency, virtually no power losses, detection of multiple power peaks during shading or mixed PV arrays, and excellent performance at low solar insolation levels. Converts 36V or 24V arrays, allowing you to charge a 12V or 24V battery with up to a 36V PV array. It is less costly than other MPPT controllers and can be used in solar arrays with up to 400Wp. Reduces device costs by downsizing the PV collection, using on-grid or thin-film modules, and shortening cable lengths. Battery life is extended thanks to efficient MPPT monitoring and four-stage charging.
  • Higher Voltage PV Arrays, Solar Panels & Reliability - This allows you to charge a 12V or 24V battery using a higher voltage solar energy device. Allows off-grid battery charging with high voltage and thin-film modules. Higher reliability and longer life are achieved through efficient electronics, a conservative thermal architecture, and tropicalization.
  • Load & Lighting Control at a Smaller Size - When the battery is discharged to a lower state of charge, it immediately disconnects loads. Morningstar's MS View software allows you to program up to four-timer sequences for PV lighting applications. The SunSaver MPPT has smaller mechanical dimensions than other MPPT controllers, making it simpler to mount in equipment enclosures.
  • Personal Computer Connectivity - Laptop compatibility with the USB MeterBus Adaptor. RS-232 to PC MeterBus Adaptor User selection is fully customizable via on-board pre-set switches or via a PC connection. With a PC link, advanced automated custom programmable lighting control is available. The status LEDs and optional meters provide comprehensive charge controller and device data. A PC may also be used for monitoring. Internal data logging of main PV system operating parameters for 30 days.
